DDCA pleads to BCCI for funds to clear player, support staff dues | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has written to the Indian cricket board (BCCI), requesting for an annual grant so that they can clear the dues of cricketers, selectors, match officials and support staff. BCCI has not disbursed annual grant to DDCA due to infighting in the association and allegations of corruption against its directors.
Vinod Tihara, who was recently reinstated as DDCA secretary by the Delhi High Court, has sent a letter to the BCCI office-bearers citing funds crunch in the association. In his letter, Tihara claimed that the state body is struggling to pay its cricketers, match officials and support staff.
“Now after the legal battles are over and dust has finally settled down, I have resumed to discharge my responsibilities as the secretary of the association. The first thing I want to implement and honour is to pay outstanding dues of the cricketers, coaches, selectors, umpires, scorers, affiliated clubs, support staff, cricket vendors etc,” Tihara wrote. TOI also learnt that the DDCA is trimming its contractual staff for cost-cutting.
Tihara’s letter also stated that DDCA has furnished its balanced sheets from 2012-13 to 2019 to BCCI. According to the letter, BCCI owes DDCA around Rs 150 crores since the board had not cleared subsidy dues since 2013.
“I humbly request you to consider the request. During these trying times of Covid-19 pandemic, the cricketers, coaches, selectors, umpires, scorers, managers, affiliated clubs and support staff who are the true flag bearers of Indian cricket and who toil for the success of the gentleman’s game day in and day out, cannot be left to suffer by denying their legitimate dues,” Tihara added.
