Devshayani Ekadashi fasting rules: Types of Ekadashi fasting & foods allowed

Devshayani Ekadashi will be observed on Wednesday, July 01, 2020. On this day, the Lord Vishnu goes for sleep and wakes up after four months on Dev Uthani Ekadashi. This four month period is known as Chaturmas.
On Devshayani Ekadashi, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and vows to keep fast whole day. There are four types of Ekadashi fasting, the devotees can decide the type of Ekadashi fasting they want to do based on their will power and physical strength.
Types of Ekadashi fasting
Jalahar: In this type of Ekadashi fasting, devotees consume only water.
Ksheerbhoji: In this type of Ekadashi fasting, devotees consume milk and milk products only.
Phalahari: In this type of Ekadashi fasting, the devotees consume only fruits.
Naktabhoji: In this type of Ekadashi fasting, the devotees have single meal in a day just before sunset. However, the meal should not have any variety of grains and cereals. Devotees can eat Sabudana, Singhada, Shakarkandi, Potatoes and Groundnuts.
