WASHINGTON: The United States has to take a different path on China as the previous policy of helping them open up their economy with the belief that this would lead to more political freedom has not worked, secretary of state Mike Pompeo said. "The theory of the case that was more economic opening will lead to more political freedoms, more fundamental rights being provided to the Chinese people, just turned out not to have been true. It just didn't work. I'm not criticizing those who came before; we can now plainly see that it didn't work, and that means the United States has to take a different path," Pompeo told Tony Perkins of Washington Watch in an interview. President Donald

WASHINGTON: Kimberly Guilfoyle, the girlfriend of President Donald Trump's oldest son, has contracted the coronavirus. Sergio Gor, chief of staff to the Trump campaign's finance committee, says Guilfoyle was immediately isolated after the positive result to limit exposure. He says she will be retested to confirm the diagnosis because she isn't showing any symptoms of Covid-19, the disease the virus causes. Gor says Guilfoyle is doing well and canceling her public events. Gor says Donald Trump Jr. tested negative but is self-isolating as a precaution. He is also canceling his public events. The couple was in South Dakota to hold fundraisers for Trump's reelection. Trump is giving a pre-Fourth of July speech at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
SEOUL: North Korea does "not feel any need" to resume talks with Washington, a senior diplomat for the country said Saturday, days after Seoul called for a summit as it seeks improved ties with Pyongyang. The statement by the North's vice foreign minister Choe Son Hui came after former US national security advisor John Bolton on Thursday reportedly said President Donald Trump might pursue another meeting with leader Kim Jong Un in October. South Korean President Moon Jae-in -- who has long backed engagement with the North -- on Tuesday also called for another meeting between Kim and Trump, saying the South would be making "utmost efforts" to make it happen. But Pyongyang does "not feel any need to sit
WILMINGTON: Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Tuesday blistered President Donald Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic as he tries to demonstrate to voters how he'd handle the public health and economic crisis if he were in the White House. Biden accused Trump of ``waving the white flag'' and refusing to lead the country through a pandemic that has killed 125,000 Americans and led to Depression-level unemployment. ``Despite the administration's propaganda that their response should be a cause for celebration, despite President Trump's request that we should slow down, testing because he thinks that makes it look bad, COVID-19 is still here,'' Biden said. ``It didn't have to be this way.'' Biden said a national system of testing
YUMA, UNITED STATES: President Donald Trump paid a visit to Arizona on Tuesday to mark the completion of hundreds of miles of the wall along the US-Mexico border, claiming it has "stopped everything" including COVID-19. "Our border has never been more secure," said Trump, who made cracking down on illegal immigration a linchpin of his 2016 presidential campaign. "This is the most powerful and comprehensive border wall structure anywhere in the world," Trump said at a roundtable briefing in Yuma on border security before a visit to a section of the wall. More than 200 miles (322 kilometers) of the wall have been built. "It has technology that nobody would even believe, between sensors and cameras and everything else," he
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said Tuesday he'll issue an executive order to protect monuments that are coming under new scrutiny as America wrestles with racism during the unrest sparked by the police killing of George Floyd. Trump has been clear that he opposes the removal of monuments of leaders of the Confederacy or other distasteful aspects of American history. Commenting as he departed the White House for a trip to Arizona, Trump said, “I will have an executive order very shortly, and all it's really going to do is reinforce what's already there, but in a more uniform way.” At a time of nationwide protests over racial injustice and inequality, Trump has aligned himself squarely on the side of those
WASHINGTON: Two more campaign staffers who attended President Donald Trump's rally in Tulsa, US state Oklahoma, on Saturday have tested positive for the coronavirus, the campaign said. The new test results bring the number of Trump's campaign staffers for the Tulsa event who have tested positive for COVID-19 up to eight, including two secret service agents, Xinhua news agency reported on Monday. "After another round of testing for campaign staff in Tulsa, two additional members of the advance team tested positive for the coronavirus," said Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh on Monday. "These staff members attended the rally but were wearing masks during the entire event. Upon the positive tests, the campaign immediately activated established quarantine and contact tracing
TULSA: President Donald Trump said Saturday he's asked his administration to slow down coronavirus testing because robust testing turns up too many cases of Covid-19. Trump told supporters at his campaign rally that the US has tested 25 million people, far more than any other country. The "bad part," Trump said, is that widespread testing leads to logging more cases of the virus. "When you do testing to that extent, you're going to find more people, you're going to find more cases," Trump said. "So I said to my people, `Slow the testing down, please.' They test and they test." Trump opted to hold his first rally in 110 days despite concerns from local health officials that it could lead

WASHINGTON: Deaths from the coronavirus pandemic in the United States is poised to tick over 100,000 on Tuesday even as President Donald Trump congratulated himself for “great reviews on our handling of Covid-19” amid a bitter partisan political battle over his administration’s approach to the crisis and rising tensions with China. The US President has literally obliterated the manual laid out by pandemic and healthcare experts recommending shutdowns and social distancing, and is now aggressively pushing for complete re-opening of the country, claiming he has controlled the pandemic and infections and death rates are falling. He also resumed calling the pathogen a “China virus.” “For all of the political hacks out there, if I hadn’t done my job well,
